Note 1: Niel FC, founded in 1924 (matricule 415), merged with Rupelzonen in 1926, becoming Nielse SK. In 1931, a name change saw the club henceforth being known as Nielse AC (Athletiek Club) - and that same year, the move was made from their first ground at Boomsestraat to a new pitch situated on the same street - a pitch in fact which was constructed in a dredged clay pit, which gave the ground, situated in the hamlet of Hellegat just south of Niel, its nickname: De Put (The Pit). Upon their becoming a Société Royale in 1949, the club chose a new name, becoming Koninklijke Nielse Sportvereniging (K Nielse SV). In 1992, K Nielse SV merged with VK Niel (founded in 1969 as FC Niel and changing their name to VK Niel twenty years later), becoming KVK Nielse. In 2003, KVK Nielse went into administration, upon which the premises were taken over by Apollo FC, a recreational club, which changed their name to become FC Apollo-Nielse, seeking membership of the Royal Belgian Football Association and being admitted under matricule 9446. In 2010, a breakaway club saw the daylight, Nielse SV (matricule 9546), which took up playing at Klinkaert in nearby Reet. When FC Apollo-Nielse went bankrupt in 2012, Nielse SV's president Bart De Troetsel purchased the premises - and his club moved (back) to De Put in January 2013. The ground, named after De Troetsel himself, has since been thoroughly renovated. Note that the match which I visited saw FC Apollo-Nielse - in one of the last games of their existence - take on Nielse SV, who took over De Put less than a year later.
